Orange Chocolate Bars

As temperatures are getting lower, we can think about chocolate again! Yes, but not chocolate chocolatey chocolate. Just a bar made with chocolate and orange biscuits and vegan fudge made with chocolate spread {that can easily be changed for peanut butter or any nut butter} and oat flour.

You won’t believe how easy and fudgy this fudge is!

This bar is really refreshing because of the orange in it. You have orange in the biscuit of the base, and you can add a squeeze of orange juice in the fudge as well. If you like cheesecake bases, you will love this bar as basically this is a chocolate cheesecake base. Fudge on top is just a little twist in the cheesecake batter, we could say ;).

The base is really easy. You just crush your biscuits, by hand or you put them in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin. You could even throw them in a blender if you want. Then you mix your slightly cooled butter in the biscuits, press it in a pan and let sit in the fridge for 5 minutes: time you need (or less) to make the easier fudge you ever made.

And you can trust this fudge. As it is 50 % oat flour, you don’t have to be ashamed about the fudge on top of your bar. You don’t need condensed milk, butter or sugar. It is all about the oat flour. The oat flour gives the perfect texture to your fudge and you can’t even say there is oat in there! It is just like magic. And you’ll see you’ll want to make this fudge anytime you can.

If you don’t have oat flour, you can just blend oat flakes into really fine crumbs and use the same blender for the biscuits: fewer dishes!

Orange Chocolate Bars

I use mini Jaffa biscuits for this recipe as they contain orange, but you can use any biscuits you fancy. I just recommend something with orange in it or, as I said earlier for the fudge, squeeze just a little orange juice when you finish your biscuit base.

Feel free to keep this recipe for later this year if it is too hot out there or just use something else 🙂

Ingredients

For the base:

  • 90 g Jaffa biscuits crumbs -or any orange chocolate biscuits- 3/4 cup + 1tbsp
  • 25 g melted butter -slightly cooled- 1 tbsp + 2 tsp

For the fudge:

  • 50 g vegan chocolate spread -or any nut butter- 3 tbsp + 1 tsp
  • 50 g oat flour 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. For the base:

Melt the butter and set aside.

Crush your biscuits, by hand or you put them in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin. You could even throw them in a blender if you want.

Mix your slightly cooled butter with the biscuits.

  2. Press the base in a 4-inch square pan lined with parchment paper and let sit in the fridge for 5 minutes: time you need (or less) to make the easier fudge you ever made.

  3. For the fudge:

Place your oat flour in a tiny bowl. Add the spread and mix with a rubber spatula until incorporated: it may look difficult at first, but just keep mixing and the oat flour will 'disappear' in the spread and you'll have your fudge. You can add a squeeze of orange juice if you want.

  4. The fudge should be really easy to handle, you can press it firmly on top of the base with your hands and have a really neat look!

  5. Chill in the fridge for at least one hour if it's hot outside, otherwise 30 minutes are enough.
